Almost 5 million migrants to come to Britain in next seven years

SUMMARY

The UK is projected to see an influx of almost five million migrants over the next seven years. This will raise the total population to 72.5 million by mid-2032, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Growth will mainly come from net migration, as births and deaths are expected to remain balanced at around 6.8 million each.

James Robards from ONS stated, “The driver of this growth is migration, with natural change… projected to be around zero."

The aging population will notably increase, with those over 85 expected to nearly double to 3.3 million by 2047. England's growth will outpace other UK nations through mid-2032, projected at 7.8 percent.

Overall, the UK is expected to grow by 8.9 million, or 13.2 percent, from mid-2022 to mid-2047.
