US Navy restarts guiding ships through Strait of Hormuz
The U.S. Navy has resumed escorting commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
A Greek supertanker carrying two million barrels of crude was guided by Navy vessels off the Omani coast. The ship had been stuck in the Middle East Gulf since early March and is now heading to India to deliver its cargo.
The operation revives “Project Freedom,” an earlier U.S. initiative that was halted roughly 36 hours after it began.
U.S. military officials said the Navy plans to assist about a dozen vessels, including supertankers and container ships, in crossing the vital waterway over the coming days.
The resumption signals that Iranian threats to global shipping lanes remain active despite the recent ceasefire. The waterway is still contested, requiring sustained American naval protection for critical energy routes.
