AI found PHP flaws that put up to 70% of websites at risk, researchers say

SUMMARY

OpenAI, Google-owned Wiz, and startup Calif say AI tools found two critical bugs in PHP, the server-side language that powers roughly 70% of websites.

“We consider this one of the most impactful security issues in recent memory,” OpenAI wrote in a blog post.

Site operators are racing to apply patches to protect logins, payments and other backend functions.

Agencies from the FBI to the U.K.'s GCHQ urged immediate fixes.

Several European governments temporarily took down sites while they patched systems.
