US Army awards Rheinmetall hybrid logistics UGV contract

The U.S. Army has awarded American Rheinmetall an 18-month contract to develop hybrid unmanned ground vehicles for logistics operations. The initiative, under Project Sustainment, aims to enhance tactical supply capabilities while reducing soldiers' exposure in contested areas. These vehicles will autonomously transport supplies to frontline units and are designed with a hybrid propulsion system offering a range of over 500 miles.

The project aligns with modernizing logistics through autonomous technology, responding to lessons learned from recent conflicts. The goal is to sustain operations while minimizing risks to personnel in high-threat environments.
