Trump DOJ asks Manhattan court to unseal Epstein grand jury testimony
The Justice Department has requested a federal judge to unseal grand jury testimony from the Jeffrey Epstein case. This comes as President Trump seeks to address criticism from supporters about withheld information. Epstein, who died in jail in 2019, was awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges. Similar testimony is also sought from the case against Ghislaine Maxwell, who was convicted of aiding Epstein and is appealing her sentence.
Court approval for releasing these materials may be difficult due to grand jury secrecy laws. Some of Trump's allies demand transparency after certain investigative files were kept private. The Justice Department's memo found no incriminating evidence against prominent figures linked to Epstein. By involving the courts, Trump aims to shift accountability away from himself. The request was made to Judge Richard M. Berman in Manhattan, who oversaw Epstein's case.
