Europe's largest carbon capture opens in the Netherlands
SUMMARY
Yara International has officially inaugurated Europe’s largest carbon capture facility at its plant in Sluiskil, Netherlands. The facility aims to establish a comprehensive system for capturing, transporting, and storing CO2. Key figures present included the Prime Ministers of Norway and the Netherlands, alongside Yara's CEO Svein Tore Holsether, who noted, “This is an important day for Yara and for European industry.”
The plant can capture and liquefy 800,000 tons of CO2 annually. Over 15 years, it is expected to store around 12 million tons of CO2, contributing significantly to European climate objectives. The project highlights the importance of cross-border cooperation in industrial decarbonization.
