US launches second night of strikes against Iran after ship struck by drone

SUMMARY

The U.S. carried out strikes against Iran for the second consecutive day, citing attacks on commercial vessels as the reason. The U.S. Central Command confirmed that these actions targeted Iranian military infrastructure in response to drone strikes on the Panama-flagged tanker Kiku and the Singapore-registered Ever Lovely.

The escalating tensions suggest that a ceasefire agreement, established on June 17, may be unraveling. Iran and the U.S. have conflicting interpretations of the ceasefire terms, leading to ongoing hostilities.

Control over the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical issue, as nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply transits through it.
