Tens of thousands march in the first Budapest Pride since Viktor Orbán was voted out

Tens of thousands celebrated the 31st annual Budapest Pride march on Saturday, the first since Viktor Orbán's ousting. Participants marched through Budapest, crossing the Danube River despite temperatures hitting 100°F. The event was supported by the new government, which has not yet repealed anti-LGBTQ+ laws but authorized police protection.

Luca Új noted the atmosphere felt more relaxed following Orbán's defeat, stating, “There used to be a lot of tension. But now I see people as being somehow happier.” With signs of progress towards LGBTQ+ rights emerging, Kristóf Györgyi voiced hopes for future reforms.
