South Africa World Cup midfielder Jayden Adams dies at 25

South African midfielder Jayden Adams, 25, has died, according to the country's sports ministry. No cause of death was provided. He played in all three of South Africa's group stage matches at the 2026 World Cup, helping the team reach the knockout rounds. Adams experienced a personal loss just before a match when his grandmother passed away.

He played for Mamelodi Sundowns, winning the African Champions League in the 2025/26 season. The South African Football Players' Union expressed sorrow over his passing, stating, “South African football has lost a gifted player.” Sport Minister Gayton McKenzie and FIFA president Gianni Infantino also offered condolences. Adams made his international debut in 2022 and earned 13 caps.
